Die einen notieren alles in Skizzenbüchern, die anderen haben eine lose Zettelsammlung, und dann gibt es jene, die kleben alle wichtigen visuellen Sammelstücke an eine großen Pinnwand. Yves Saint Laurent hatte solch eine berühmte Collage hinter seinem Schreibtisch. Diana Vreeland, die legendäre Fashion Ikone von Harper’s Bazar und US Vogue in den 50er und 60er Jahre, verteilte sich über das gesamte Zimmer. Bei mir hängt alles dicht gedrängt neben und übereinander gleich links von meinem Schreibtisch an der Wand. Ungezählte Male schweift mein Blick täglich dorthin: Stofflaschen, Farbproben, Zeitungsartikel, … passen die Schnipsel zusammen, inspirieren sie mich oder wird manches nach ein paar Tagen langweilig und muss verschwinden? Immer in der Mitte dazwischen die Farbkarte der kommenden Saison – ein wichtiger Dreh- und Angelpunkt für alles.

Diana Vreeland, the legendary fashion editor of Harper’s Bazaar and US Vogue in the 1950s and 60s, put all her photos and scripts all over her office. I use my studio wall as a huge pin board with sketches, photos, textile swatches, color tests and newspaper articles … tapped closely next to each other and over each other. A hundred times a day, I glance over to check if all fits together, inspires me or gets boring over the time. Always in the middle of the wall sticks the color board of the season – a very important element of each collection.
